Contract Lifts — Fully Managed Lifting Operations

A contract lift is a fully managed lifting operation. Rather than you hiring a lorry and taking responsibility for the lift yourself, AC Lifting plans, manages and executes the lift end to end — with an appointed person, a written lift plan, method statement and risk assessment. It’s the right service when the lift needs proper engineering oversight or when your procurement team needs the paperwork in place before we turn up.

What’s included in a contract lift

  • Appointed person (AP) — oversees the operation and holds responsibility for planning.
  • Written lift plan covering crane selection, load specifics, ground conditions and rigging.
  • Method statement and risk assessment (MSRA) — shared with you ahead of the lift.
  • Site survey — we walk the site beforehand to confirm access, overheads, exclusion zones.
  • ALLMI-accredited operator and rigger on the day.
  • All plant, lifting accessories and insurance cover.

Contract lift vs CPA hire — the key difference

Under a CPA hire (Construction Plant-hire Association standard), the hirer retains responsibility for planning the lift and the safety of the operation. You tell us when to arrive, where to park and how to lift. It’s the lower-cost option, suited to clients with their own lifting supervisor and appointed person on site.

Under a contract lift, AC Lifting takes that responsibility. We plan the lift, we run it, we sign it off. It’s the right choice when you don’t have an appointed person in-house, when the site or load is unfamiliar, or when your client or insurer requires a fully managed lift.

Common questions

When do I need a contract lift?

If you can’t provide a qualified appointed person, if the lift is unusual or high-risk, if it’s in a public area, or if the client, principal contractor or insurer requires it. For most one-off residential lifts and anything near occupied buildings, a contract lift is the safer choice.

Who’s responsible if something goes wrong?

On a contract lift, AC Lifting. That’s the whole point — the lifting contractor holds responsibility for planning, supervision and execution of the lift, and carries the insurance to match.

How far in advance do I need to book?

Ideally a week or more — that gives us time for a site survey, lift plan and MSRA. Urgent jobs can sometimes be turned around in two or three days if the load is straightforward and we can access the site quickly.

What does a contract lift cost?

More than a CPA hire, because we’re taking on the planning, paperwork and responsibility. The difference is usually a fixed uplift over the lift rate rather than a percentage, and for many clients it’s far cheaper than resourcing an appointed person and lift supervisor internally.
