GRP Kiosk & Prefab Cabinet Transport

GRP kiosks, prefab cabinets, prefabrication units and utility-infrastructure enclosures. Lifted into precise position alongside live sites — across UK utilities, telecoms, water, rail and highways.

Nationwide GRP Kiosk & Prefab Cabinet Transport

AC Lifting handles GRP kiosk, prefab cabinet and prefabrication-unit collection, transport and installation across the UK. From utility substation enclosures and DNO cabinets to telecoms prefab cabinets, water control kiosks and industrial enclosures — we collect from the manufacturer, haul to site, and crane into position in a single trip.

What is a GRP kiosk?

A GRP kiosk is an outdoor enclosure built from glass-reinforced polyester — a composite of polyester resin and glass fibres that produces a lightweight, rot-proof, corrosion-resistant shell. A UV-stable gel coat finish keeps it looking right and performing reliably for decades, which is why GRP has become the default enclosure material for utility substations, water treatment control panels, telecoms cabinets, CCTV hubs, traffic control gear and industrial equipment housings.

GRP kiosks are manufactured off-site and usually delivered fully fitted out. That means careful transport and precise placement onto a prepared base — and that’s where we come in.

You’ll see these called many things — GRP kiosks, GRP enclosures, prefab cabinets, prefabricated cabinets, prefab kiosks, prefabrication units, modular cabinets or equipment housings. They’re functionally the same product: a factory-built outdoor enclosure that gets craned into position on a prepared base. We transport and place them all.

Typical GRP kiosk jobs we handle

  • Utility substation kiosks & prefab DNO cabinets — LV and HV housings, transformer enclosures, metering cabinets
  • Water and wastewater control kiosks & prefab pump-station enclosures — control panels, dosing kiosks, telemetry cabinets
  • Telecoms and fibre prefab cabinets — street cabinets, headend kiosks, equipment huts
  • Traffic and ITS prefab cabinets — signalling cabinets, ANPR and CCTV enclosures, VMS control
  • Industrial and commercial prefab enclosures — generator housings, compressor rooms, security gatehouses

Prefabrication: how the supply chain works

Prefab cabinets are built off-site in a controlled factory environment — wired, tested and finished before they ever see a lorry. That keeps site time short and quality high, but it means the transport and lifting step has to be right first time. A damaged enclosure or a misplaced lift can write off a unit worth tens of thousands of pounds and push a project back weeks.

AC Lifting is the transport-and-install link in the prefab supply chain — collecting finished kiosks, cabinets and prefabrication units from manufacturers, transporting them undamaged across the UK, and craning them onto their prepared bases in a single visit. One contractor, one day, no second crane.

Why HIAB is the right fit for GRP kiosks

A GRP kiosk job is really two jobs rolled into one: haul the kiosk from the manufacturer, then lift it precisely onto its prepared base. A HIAB lorry does both in a single visit — no second vehicle, no separate crane hire, no coordination headaches.

  • Single-vehicle mobilisation — no separate crane to book, coordinate or pay for
  • Precise placement — hydraulic reach lets us land kiosks over walls, fences, cables or soft ground
  • Access into tight sites — our fleet spans narrow-lane trucks up to heavy-reach rigs, so we match the vehicle to the compound
  • ALLMI-accredited operators — lift plans, RAMS and contract-lift supervision for sensitive or live sites

Kiosk sizes and weights we handle

GRP kiosks run from compact meter cabinets at a few hundred kilos up to walk-in enclosures of several tonnes — particularly when pre-fitted with switchgear, transformers or control panels. Our fleet covers the full range. Lighter units sit comfortably on our smaller HIABs; heavier kiosks go on our long-reach trucks that can land them cleanly over ground-level obstacles.

Send a photo, weight and overall dimensions with your quote request and we’ll confirm the right truck and lift spec.

What to prepare for a GRP kiosk delivery

  • Base ready and cured — concrete plinth, hardstanding or GRP base slab in final position
  • Access route — width and height restrictions, turning space, soft or sloping ground flagged in advance
  • Lift zone clear — no overhead cables, tree canopy or scaffolding in the working radius
  • Permits and site rules — DNO, National Grid, water company or principal contractor induction requirements sorted ahead of arrival
  • Contact on site — someone to meet the driver, confirm orientation and sign off placement

Who we work with on GRP kiosks

We handle GRP kiosk and prefab cabinet movements for manufacturers, GRP fabricators, principal contractors, DNOs, ICPs (Independent Connection Providers), water companies, telecoms and fibre operators, ITS / highway maintenance specialists and rail signalling contractors. Typical work includes collecting finished kiosks from the factory for site delivery, moving ex-stock kiosks between depots and projects, repositioning kiosks during substation rebuilds, and decommissioning removals when kit is taken out of service.

Common questions

Can you collect from a manufacturer and deliver straight to site?

Yes — this is the most common request. We collect the kiosk from the factory, transport it to your site and lift it into position on the same visit. One vehicle, one bill, one point of coordination.

What’s the biggest GRP kiosk you can handle?

Our heaviest HIABs handle kiosks well into the multi-tonne range, including walk-in enclosures fitted with switchgear or transformers. Share the kiosk’s weight, footprint and fit-out and we’ll confirm the right truck and lift plan.

Do you offer contract lifts for GRP kiosk installations?

Yes. Where you need a fully managed lift with method statement, risk assessment and ALLMI-accredited supervision, we run it as a contract lift. That’s common on live substation work, adopted-asset projects and sensitive sites.

Can you work on live utility or DNO sites?

Regularly. We’re experienced with DNO, National Grid and water company protocols — inductions, permits, sentry requirements and exclusion zones. Tell us the site contact and adoption route and we’ll handle the rest.

How much notice do you need?

We aim to cover short-notice and next-day jobs whenever we have capacity, especially on the smaller HIABs. For heavier kiosks, contract lifts or abnormal loads, a few days’ notice lets us plan the right vehicle, route and lift. Give us a call to check availability.

Do you transport non-GRP prefab cabinets?

Yes. Steel-clad, composite, modular timber-clad, concrete-base prefab — if it’s factory-built and craneable, we move it. The HIAB and contract-lift methodology is the same regardless of enclosure material.

Are you set up for repeat work with prefab manufacturers?

Yes — we run regular factory-to-site delivery work for several manufacturers and fabricators on either a per-job or set-up-an-account basis. Talk to us about scheduled runs.
